Mohammed Al-Shahoubi, the Minister of Transport for the National Unity Government, held discussions with German Ambassador Michael Ohnmacht and his accompanying delegation on Tuesday. The talks centered on potential collaboration in the transport sector, including the return of German companies to Libya and the resumption of air travel between the two nations.

A statement released on the Ministry of Transport’s Facebook page revealed that Al-Shahoubi and Ambassador Ohnmacht examined “matters of mutual interest within the transport field” and explored “avenues for cooperation” across all areas related to transport. The possibility of German companies resuming operations in Libya was also discussed.

During the meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Transport’s headquarters in Tripoli, Al-Shahoubi commended the strong relationship between Libya and Germany. He emphasized his commitment to further strengthening ties in a manner that benefits both countries.

The ministry’s statement also noted that Ambassador Ohnmacht expressed Germany’s desire to enhance relations of friendship and cooperation within the transport sector. He indicated that Germany is keen to “activate cooperation on multiple fronts” and is exploring options for re-establishing air travel between the two countries.

Several high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Transport were present at the meeting, including Khaled Nasr Sweisi, Undersecretary for Air Transport Affairs; Ali Al-Said Al-Qamoudi, International Relations Advisor; and Adel Bakheet Ibrahim, Director of Cooperation Office at the Ministry’s Diwan.
