GBV AoR Response Monitoring – HRP 2023 West and Central Africa Region (WCAR)

8.6 million people were estimated as in need of GBV assistance across the West and Central Africa region in 2023. 69% of people in need were targeted for humanitarian response plan 2023. A total of US$ 178.1 million required (5.4 %met in June) to deliver GBV life-saving assistance across the 7 countries including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Mali, Niger and Nigeria. Main GBV risk factors within the Region includes Food insecurity & Malnutrition, Climate change including Flooding, forced population movement, harmful practices, negative coping mechanism. humanitarian partners assisted roughly …. per cent (among them …. reached by awareness raising and sensitization activities) of the targeted population including women and girls, LNOBs. Life-saving response activities includes Specialized GBV services, GBV Risk Mitigation &Dignity Kits distribution, Economic and Social empowerment, GBV Awareness raising, Sensitization and capacity-building. Mains challenges raised across countries are low coverage of specialized GBV services, critical need to scale up lifesaving GBV services and advocate for access to reach affected communities, capacity building at the sub-national level. Key priorities are (1) Scale up GBV lifesaving services by increasing the envelope for specific GBV programs in order to strengthen the availability/quality of emergency response services; (2) strengthen GBV coordination at national and sub-national levels – support GBV coordination + IM positions; (3) strengthen GBV risk mitigation and awareness raising across others clusters as Food Security, Wash, Health, Shelter, Education, etc.
